• 755 AD: The An Lushan Rebellion begins. The Anxi and Hexi garrisons are recalled east, leaving the frontier vulnerable. The Tibetan Empire invades, severing the Hexi Corridor and isolating the Four Garrisons of Anxi.
• 768 AD: Guo Xin is appointed acting commander. He rallies 8,000 remnant troops to hold their ground, with their oath of survival becoming the origin of Jianghu chivalry.
